Blunt
This stump is the result of a tree being blunted by an axe several years ago. It makes you wonder why the tree was felled? Was it diseased, was it taking too much light, struck by lightning, or what? All what remains now is the stump yet it is now home to other forms of growth that on an otherwise grim, grey January morning added some colour to this bank in the park.
-
Pointed
These prickly, pointed cactus plant contrasts with the tree stump, not just in appearance. The cactus is thriving and is clearly something not to mess with. Unlike the blunt stump, you would have a hard time sitting down on this plant to rest.
-
Intermittent
This row of bikes at first glance looks quite uniform but upon closer inspection the randomness of each bike becomes apparent. The type of bike, their sizes, colours, parking position, some have child seats and so on. This is an intermittent line of bikes.
-
Continuous
This path is used by joggers and walkers alike. The path encircles a childrens play area and tennis courts. It is possible to run or walk continuously along the never ending path.
-
Broad
This waterfront in Copenhagen is known as Nyhavn and is popular with tourists all year round. It is a broad area where there is lots of room for people on and within the harbour i.e. on land and water. This photo taken early in the morning just as the sun has risen shows the area quite empty of boats and people. Within an hour, the sun will lighten up the whole of Nyhavn and remain until the late afternoon.
-
Narrow
This narrow street in the centre of Copenhagen is closed to the sun during the early and late parts of the day. It seems like the sun struggles to enter the street and when it does it relies on the being help by reflection from windows in order to make its presence felt. Compared to Nyhavn, some could find this street claustrophobic.
-
Hard
This coastline is made up of volcanic lava and is therefore extremely hard and rugged. The rocks are exactly where they were when the lava cooled and despite constant battling by the sea, the hard rock does not erode.
-
Soft
This coastline is very, soft sand - luxurious on the foot and like walking on a deep piled carpet. The beach is also soft to the elements - strong winds blows the sand and the incoming tide erodes the coast.
-
Much
These two busy looking businessmen evoke a feeling of self-importance, high status and wealth. They have much of these things. Their body language and assets (suits, brief cases and so on) help to support this.
-
Little
This poor gentleman has very little. He gets his warmth from sitting on top of an underground heating vent. The passing women look at him in a way that may be perceived as he is of little value, importance and low status.
-
Rough
Andy is a barman and is standing having a puff outside the bar where he works. He is a self-confessed "rough" character and his appearance also supports this - rough complexion and rough stubble.
-
Smooth
Storm is a two and a half year old with soft looks, soft skin and a soft innocence.
-
Opaque
This railway station window has been neglected over a long period. The otherwise clear glass has not been cleaning and it has now become a canvas for graffiti artists. In reality, the window is no longer a window - it is a piece of art.
-
Transparent
People sitting grabbing a snack in a railway station cafe. Sitting behind glass and not able to hide their eating habits - good or bad - from the passing world. They are exposed. Many people were brought up by their parents that it is rude to watch others eat. With such huge clear windows, eaters cannot avoid being watched.
-
Moving
This girl is riding a bike and is turning right at a junction. She speeds pass and the camera follows here movement creating the blur of speed and time in the background.
-
Still
Day in, day out these showroom dummies stand still outside the same shop watching people rush back and forth. Their clothes are changed occasionally and they are used for marketing purposes. Their expression never changes - whether it rains or shines, or the world is hit by a recession - their stillness brings calm.

Thick & Thin (in one picture)
A line of trees around a children's play area in Spain. The climate is warm enough for palms. But these huge palms would steal the light around the play area so there are alternate "thinner" trees planted - not sure what species.
